Transcending beyond borders, the Department of Science and Technology-National Committee on Biosafety of the Philippines (DOST-NCBP) took part in the Engagement Workshop for the Development of Post 2020 Biosafety Project back to back with the Biosafety Clearing House (BCH) Training Workshop from 4-7 February 2020 at New Delhi, India and the 9th International Plant Tissue Culture and Biotechnology Conference on 8-10 February 2020 at University of Dhaka, Bangladesh.
DEVELOPMENT OF ASIA BIOSAFETY REGIONAL PROJECT ON THE SUSTAINABLE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE CARTAGENA PROTOCOL ON BIOSAFETY …. UNDERWAY
The National Committee on Biosafety of the Philippines is spearheading the development of a multi-year regional proposal on biosafety on the sustainable implementation of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety. The country will focus on the two thematic areas: 1) Handling, Transport, Packaging, and Identification of LMOs; and 2) Information Sharing and Strategic Knowledge Management & Sustaining Regional Cooperation and Coordination. At the regional level, the project will be led by the United Nations Environment Program while the Competent National Authorities: DA, DOST, DENR and the DOH, will implement the activities the national level. Funding for the project will come from the STAR 7th Cycle Global Environment Facility in the amount of US500,00. In country contribution will be in the form of facilities and manpower.
4th National Report on the CNA’s activities on the protocol’s implementation presented to stakeholders
As part of compliance to the Article 33 – Monitoring and Reporting of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, the National Committee on Biosafety of the Philippines, in cooperation with the Competent National Authorities invited the stakeholders to a Public Consultation on the Fourth National Report on the Implementation of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety held on August 23, 2019 at the Biodiversity Management Bureau, Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife, Quezon City.
